Give Thanks by Giving Back this Thanksgiving!

Join our parish tradition by bringing non-perishable food items to the 9 am Mass on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 27, at the main campus. Donations help restock Mary's Cupboard (St. Matthew Food Pantry) after they prepare and distribute 150 Thanksgiving baskets for those in need. Please place items in the bins outside the church entrance. Together, we can share gratitude and generosity with our community this holiday season!

It is one of our favorite parish traditions, Family Advent Wreath Making on Sunday, Nov. 30, following the 9 and 10:45 am Masses in the Parish Center Gym! Gather your family and friends to begin the season of Advent with creativity, community, and prayer. Together, you will craft a beautiful wreath to bring the light of Christ into your home this holy season.

St. Matthew’s Boy Scout Troop 8 has been serving our community for 36 years, producing nearly 200 Eagle Scouts through service projects, Scouting for Food, and outdoor adventures. We invite you to join in welcoming St. Anthony of Padua to the Diocese of Charlotte! St. Anthony will be visiting the area in the form of two precious First-Class relics from the Pontifical Basilica in Padua, Italy. The relics will be accompanied by Fr. Mario Conte and Fr. Fabio Turrisendo, Franciscan Friars from Padua, where the saint is buried.

Come venerate the First-Class Relics of St. Anthony at St. Matthew after all Masses on Dec. 7. The relics will be placed in the Chapel on the main campus. Please enter through the Chapel’s outside doors and exit using the doors to the side of the Altar.

St. Anthony intercedes for those seeking employment, housing, faith, love, hope, family harmony, good health, peace of mind, and mercy. Writing a prayer petition is a long-standing tradition when venerating the relic of a saint. The faithful are invited to write their personal petition, which Fr. Conte and Fr. Turrisendo will gather and take to the Basilica in Padua, where they will be placed at the tomb of St. Anthony. The tour will conclude there as the Friars join in prayer, asking St. Anthony’s intercession for all the petitions received. Prayer cards will be available during the visit.

Bring holiday joy to families in need by donating gift cards to help them purchase gifts, toys, and food this Christmas. Gift cards from Target, Walmart, Food Lion, Harris Teeter, MasterCard, or Visa are most helpful. Please avoid restaurant or specialty store cards, as some gift cards will be sent outside the Charlotte area, including Father John's parish, St. Margaret Mary in Swannanoa, to support families in need. Gift cards will be collected through the weekend of Dec. 6–7.

Place cards in an envelope labeled “Angel Tree Gift Card” and note the amount on each card. Drop envelopes in the offertory baskets at either campus or bring them to the church office. For more information, contact Don Meanor at 980-240-7850.
